LMVAS needs your help to keep your ambulance service local!
As the new year begins, the Lisbon-Mt. Vernon Ambulance Service (LMVAS) is offering residents an opportunity to gain lifesaving skills that could make the difference in a critical emergency.
According to national data, nearly 70 percent of sudden cardiac arrests occur in the home, often witnessed by family members, friends, or coworkers. In these situations, bystander CPR can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival before emergency responders arrive. Yet many people never receive formal training.
Severe bleeding presents another time-critical emergency. Uncontrolled hemorrhage is the leading cause of preventable death following trauma, and a person can bleed to death in as little as five minutes. The Stop the Bleed portion of the class teaches participants how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and take immediate action using direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquets.
The training will take place at Thomas Commons in Mount Vernon and is free to attend. Participants may also choose to earn an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR certification for an additional $25.
LMVAS encourages parents, caregivers, teachers, coaches, business owners, and community members to attend. The class aligns with the organization’s ongoing mission to strengthen emergency preparedness and resilience across the Lisbon and Mount Vernon communities.
